Since they are primarily herbivores, most people don’t think of antelope as particularly scary creatures, but don’t tell that to anyone who’s had to deal with a kudu bull and their gigantic sharp horns up close. These hoofed mammals are as dangerous as they are majestic, so it takes a special kind of person to risk saving one entangled in a fence. While animal-loving humans are usually seen rescuing lambs, dogs, and the occasional heifer in distress, but risking life and limb to help such a menacing wild animal is not something one sees every day.
But that’s exactly what happened in this heart-pounding rescue video posted the The Dodo. In it, two people in Botswana stumble upon the horned creature imperiled in a wire fence. The animal is (understandably) frightened, and hoofs and gores at the would-be rescuer like it’s life depends on it. It takes a few tries, and a lot of close calls, but eventually the human saves the animal from it’s predicament.
While evading giant kudu horns might not sound as fun as other things one could in Botswana, this beautiful animal would most likely have perished if it weren’t for this brave man’s help. Scary as this video might be (some of those close calls are close indeed) it’s heartening to know there are people who are concerned and passionate enough to risk their own well being for an animal in need.
