This heartbreaking video shows a dog pawing at a friend’s motionless body after the other pooch was hit by a car.
Footage taken on a pavement in Peru shows the stray animal stroking the other dog with its paw as if making a doomed attempt to wake it up.
One passer-by can be heard saying ‘poor little dog’ but the street otherwise appears deserted.
The footage was taken in the city of Huancayo, in the central Peruvian region of Junin. It is not clear when.
Heartbreaking: This footage shows a stray dog pawing at a friend’s motionless body after the other pooch was hit by a car
At the start of the 30-second clip, the surviving dog is standing over the body with both its front paws on the fallen animal’s body.
The darker brown dog then paws repeatedly at its friend, stroking its body as if trying to turn it over.
When that proves fruitless, the dog moves around to the other side of the body and leaves its paw resting on it, turning as if to look at the camera.
A third dog then comes into view, but the footage cuts out before its arrival is noticed by the first one.
