You didn’t forget about me then! Amazing video captures tension as a baby elephant rescued from a well waits all day for his mother to return before hearing her and excitedly running over
This is the beautiful moment a lost baby elephant is reunited with his mother and runs back to her in delight after being rescued from a well.
The bull elephant calf became separated from his herd when he fell down the water well and got stuck at the Sera Community Conservancy in northern Kenyan.
The family were forced to move on without him but thankfully rangers were on hand to pull the elephant free and hatch a plan to see him reunited with his mother.
Safe and sound: The rangers tie the calf to a tree near to where he got lost in the hope his herd will find him
Labour of love: The rangers spent their entire day by the tree to keep the elephant fed and watered
They decided to tie the calf to a tree near to where he became lost in the hope that his herd would return to the area to look for him.
The rangers spent their entire day by the tree to keep the elephant fed and watered as the hours ticked on without any sign of the herd.
The group were considering calling it a day when they heard the faint sound of heavy feet in the distance and untied the elephant calf.
The video shows the rangers quickly leaving the area so as not to disturb the incoming herd as the baby realises his family are on their way.
He lifts his ears in hope and begins walking in the direction of the sound before suddenly picking up the pace and running towards the herd.
One of the rangers then encourages the calf to move in the right direction by instigating a game of chase and heading for the elephants.
That sounds familiar! The rescued calf lifts his ears to listen out for the herd before running in their direction
Homeward bound: The elephant calf spots his family and with his head down runs towards his mother
Reunited: The mother anticipates the calf’s return by flapping her ears and wagging her tail in excitement
Eventually the elephant calf spots his family and with his head down runs towards his mother and the rest of the herd as fast as he can.
The heartwarming footage shows the mother anticipating his return by flapping her ears and wagging her tail in excitement.
Meanwhile the baby runs straight past the other members of the herd and right at his mother.
The pair are seen playing together before the mother walks away towards some rocks. This time the calf stays close by her side to ensure he doesn’t get lost again.
The video was posted to the Northern Rangelands Trust’s YouTube channel, a non-profit organisation dedicated to developing resilient community conservancies.
