What is happening?
And that’s brave standing this close to a skunk… Especially one that is in a battle probably ready to try out their best defense mechanism.
This is what is great about wild animals. You just never know what you will come across.
Ground hogs are medium sized rodents that can weigh up to 15 pounds. They are named after where they live, the ground. They are herbivores and feed on the vegetation near their holes in the ground.

They are generally scared of everything as they can be easy targets for larger predators. But they can be aggressive if anything gets to close.
Skunks are known far and wide for their appearance with the white stripes down their backs and also they awful odor they can realize as they spray in defense when they are in danger.
These creatures can weigh up to 10 pounds. They are slow moving and will eat anything they can from vegetation to eggs and insects.
Neither animal looks for a fight but like anything in nature it can happen. They usually avoid each other but if there are limited food sources or one thinks the other is a threat, things can get crazy real quick.
These fellas witnessed a wild and unexpected battle.
A skunk and a ground hog are seen going at it in a full on fight right in the driveway.
The two small animals go back and forth pushing and running.
With the skunk’s tail raised, I have to wonder why these fellas are still standing there.
Then I have to laugh as the skunk scrambles to leave and nearly runs right into them all as they scramble too.
What a sequence of events.
