Five whale sharks recently found themselves in a sticky situation when they were caught in fishing nets off the coast of Indonesia. Thankfully, a group of courageous divers happened to be in the area, and they were willing to help disentangle the creatures.
According to an Instagram post from one of the rescuers, the sharks were captured by accident. When the owners of the fishing nets realized they’d snared something bigger than they were expecting, they reached out to the visiting divers for assistance.
Footage shows divers carefully unwrapping the sharks underwater. Once the animals were freed, they were able to swim away. NBC News tells us that whale sharks are a “vulnerable species” according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Online commenters have been praising the divers for their kindness and bravery in extricating the creatures.
