That’s too wuff! Loyal golden retriever ‘protects’ crying girl as she is being told off by her mother

A video of a pet dog appearing to prevent a little girl from being scolded by her mother has gone viral in China.

The child’s mother, who filmed the scene, claimed that the five-year-old golden retriever was protecting her two-year-old daughter as she was scolding the girl.

She claimed that her daughter had grown up in Harry’s company and the two had a deep bond.

This is the heart-warming moment a family dog named after ‘Harry Potter’ rushed to protect his little pet owner from being told off by her mother on Friday in the city of Xuzhou, China

The Chinese parent, Ms Sun, told MailOnline that she got extremely upset after discovering her newly-bought facial cream ripped open and used by her two-year-old toddler as a toy

The pet, named after J.K. Rowling’s fictional character Harry Potter, also appeared to snarl at the parent, seemingly telling her to back off.

Harry’s adorable reaction was captured by the girl’s mother, Ms Sun, on Friday at their home in eastern Chinese city Xuzhou.

Ms Sun claimed that she decided to record the incident because she found it ‘funny and infuriating’ at the same time.

According to the mother, she had just purchased a tub of facial cream for her daughter and left it in the living room as she went to prepare lunch.

After she returned, the woman was exasperated to find that You You had torn up the product packaging while playing with the tub of moisturiser.

‘I was honestly really upset. I’d just bought the cream and half of it was already gone,’ Ms Sun, 32, told MailOnline. ‘My baby started crying because I was shouting at her quite aggressively.’

But the parent claimed her anger melted away when she saw Harry defending her daughter.

While the woman was scolding her daughter, their five-year-old golden retriever, named after J.K. Rowling’s eponymous novels ‘Harry Potter’, ran to shield the crying child with his paws

Footage shows the furry guardian standing in front of the crying toddler while baring his teeth at the mother, seemingly warning her to stop.

The pet even became more defensive as the mother told him to move out of the way.

‘You, get up. Stop protecting [her],’ Ms Sun can be heard saying in the video.

Harry also appeared trying to comfort You You by wrapping his leg around the little girl and resting his head on her shoulder.

Amused by the dog’s reaction, the mother calmed down and stopped the scolding.

‘I was still upset but I thought it was also quite funny.’ Ms Sun said. ‘It was very heart-warming. Dogs would find ways to express their love if you treat them properly.’

Apparently, this is not the first time Harry has defended his little pet owner.

‘Whenever we speak to [You You] in a harsh tone, he would come over and try to shield her with his paws,’ the mother added.

‘He would protect the child with his life.’

The footage of Harry quickly became viral and amassed millions of ‘likes’ after Ms Sun shared it on Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok.

But some viewers suspected the authenticity of the video and accused the pet owner of ‘staging’ the dog’s reaction.

One Douyin user wrote: ‘Did anyone notice that the pet owner hit the golden retriever first and it started snarling? It’s the dog’s natural response. It’s not trying to protect the child.’

Another said: ‘This is clearly edited. The mother taught the dog to hug the baby.’

Ms Sun refuted claims that the video was staged. She insisted that it showed the natural reactions of Harry and her daughter.

The parent said she was surprised and overwhelmed by the attention her video had attracted.

‘I was just documenting the daily moments of my dog and daughter because Harry is turning six years old soon and getting old,’ Ms Sun said.

‘I just wanted to capture these memories so I have something to look back on in the future when he’s not here anymore.’

Harry’s heart-warming reaction comes as another video of a cat being escorted off a train after the furry passenger was spotted ‘travelling without a ticket’ has amused millions in China.

The feline, believed to be a stray, sneaked onto a high-speed train in China on Sunday, seemingly trying to hitch a free ride.

After being caught red-handed, the animal is seen trotting on its hind legs with tiny steps as it was carried out of the carriage by a railway officer.
