A woman and two 17-year-old girls have been charged with animal cruelty after they allegedly ‘sawed off’ the hind legs of a paralyzed dachshund named Buddy.
Police said a 50-year-old woman, her daughter and the daughter’s friend were arrested Monday at a trailer park in Slidell, Louisiana.

The dog was forced to drag his legs behind him, which caused sores to open up and become infected.
When questioned by authorities, Buddy’s owners said the dog’s legs ‘fell off’ after they bandaged them too tight to treat the infection.
A veterinarian orthopedic surgeon told detectives that the wounds Buddy was found with on his legs last week were ‘maliciously inflicted’
Buddy’s owners said that he was shot back in February and became paralyzed in his back legs. He developed infections in his legs after being forced to drag his hind legs

The sheriff’s office said they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting that initially wounded Buddy.
Buddy is currently in the care of a local veterinarian – Dante’s Hope East – and is recovering well, according to the sheriff’s office
A surgeon who examined Buddy found that his legs had not been removed by a veterinary professional nor by natural means
‘As a dog owner myself, I was completely appalled when we received a complaint of such horrific animal cruelty in our community. Our investigators acted swiftly, and the parties responsible have been charged accordingly,’ Sheriff Randy Smith said.
