This is the heartwarming moment a dog yelped at the top of its lungs and plunged into a lake to ‘rescue’ its owner after he jumped into the water on a rope swing.
Two dogs looked up in curiosity as their owner, known only as J Dunaway, stood at the edge of a platform and prepared to swing himself into the water in Randolph County, North Carolina.
He held the rope high as the hounds – which resembled black and yellow labradors – waited to see what he would do.

Suddenly, the owner launched himself from the wooden outcrop, swooping out over the water.
This was too much for Buster, the black labrador, who freaked out at the thought that Mr Dunaway was in danger.
The loyal dog sprang into action, darting left and right while deciding what to do as he let out a high-pitched yelping noise.

Then, when Mr Dunaway fell into the water with a splash, Buster’s panic almost overwhelmed him.
He carried on his stream of yelps and barks as he raced down to the water and doggy-paddled furiously up to his owner, who was calmly treading water.
The yellow labrador also swam up to his owner – albeit more quietly than Buster – to provide a second helping paw.

Mr Dunaway said: ‘I decided to try the rope swing to swing out into the lake. This seemed to almost scare my dogs to death (especially poor Buster)!
‘They both swam out to rescue me and Buster cried the whole time.
‘Buster may be a little overly protective.’
It seems dogs really are a man’s best friend – even when he doesn’t need one.
