Retired postman Rodney Holbrook observed something curious going on in his shed. During the day he’d leave things out on his workbench but when he came in the morning his things had been mysteriously put away. What was going on?
“At first I noticed that some food that I was putting out for the birds was ending up in some old shoes I was storing in the shed, so I set up a camera to see what was going on,” Holbrook said in a statement. Holbrook lives in Builth Wells, a small town in central Wales in the United Kingdom.
He was surprised by the culprit his night-vision camera filmed. A very industrious mouse was responsible for tidying things up. The mouse picked up clothes pegs, nuts and bolts and other assorted items left lying about by Holbrook and made sure to put them away in a box!
Over the next couple of months, Holbrook filmed the mouse busy at work. The mouse tidies up all kinds of things!
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw that the mouse was tidying up, he moved all sorts of things into the box, bits of plastic, nuts and bolts,” Holbrook said. “I don’t bother to tidy up now, as I know he will see to it.”
However, it’s not the first time Holbrook has encountered a “Marie Kondo” mouse. A few years ago, he helped his friend and neighbor Stephen McKears get to the bottom of the mystery of what was going on in his garden shed.
According to SWNS, “The retired electrician noticed plastic clips appearing in an old ice cream tub filled with peanuts which he keeps to feed the birds before more objects began to accumulate. Questioning his sanity, Stephen emptied the tub each night, scattering the nuts and bolts across his shed, only to discover the mess had been cleaned by the morning. After weeks of finding large screws, plastic leads, nuts and bolts neatly filed away, the pair decided to set up a trail camera to uncover the mystery guest.”
Just as with Holbrook’s mouse, McKears’ mouse tidied up after him.
It seems that the mice in McKears and Holbrook’s neighborhood are very house-proud and just can’t tolerate a mess!
