Timofey Yuriev is one of the unsung heroes of the world. When a brave guy in Yonkers, New York stumbled across two trapped canines that had fallen through a frozen lake into freezing waters, he didn’t hesitate.
He was out on a stroll with his dog at the O’Hara Nature Center when he noticed two elderly canines crossing the lake on the ice. He stood there watching the ice break and the dogs fall in.
Yuriev realized that aid would not arrive in time to save the elderly dogs, so he did the only thing he could think of: he leapt into the lake without his shirt on. His faithful dog trailed close following.
When he was seven years old, his grandpa taught him how to swim on ice in Siberia when he was growing up in Kazakhstan.
“Everything felt good when I used the breathing method,” he told ABC7 News. “I was a little dizzy, so I went for the second dog.”
Despite the fact that the second dog was more difficult to handle since he had to break through more ice, both dogs, as well as Yuriev and his canine companion, made it back to shore.
The owner of the two dogs that fell through lives near the lake, and his puppies got out of the yard.
Thankfully, this kind Samaritan happened to be at the right place at the right moment to assist. In the video below, you can see the dramatic rescue.
