Incredible Resilience: Pitbull Mix Named Chance Endures 800 Bee Stings, Receives Emergency Blood Transfusion in California Yard Incident

A dog in Southern California was stung by hundreds of bees after his owner discovered a massive nest in his yard and attempted to remove it himself.

Chance was hanging out with his owner at their Lake Mathews home last week when the owner stumbled upon the hive and the situation became uncontrollable.

A GoFundMe for the dog’s veterinarian bills states Chance was stung more than 800 times and the pup needed to receive a blood transfusion.

The vicious bee attack at the SoCal home comes just days after an LAPD volunteer was stung repeatedly by an angry swarm of bees in Encino.

According to the GoFundMe, Chance is still recovering from the attack and his family and loved ones are unsure if he will pull through.

KTLA reported that the Chance was stung while his owner was doing yardwork and discovered the hive nearby.

A massive horde of bees went directly for the home where Chance was located.

The dog – a pitbull and mastiff mix – was first taken to an emergency pet hospital over the weekend and remains hospitalized at this time.

On Sunday, the fundraiser’s creator said Chance was showing ‘signs of improvement’ following his blood transfusion, including wagging his tail.

An update shared that its possible the pup may need another transfusion and that his veterinarians are monitoring him closely as he is ‘not out of the woods.’

‘Chance is so strong and fighting so hard,’ GoFundMe creator Tommy Baker wrote.

The fundraiser for the dog’s medical bills has raised more than $10,000 since being launched over the weekend by a friend of Chance’s family.

In another update, Chance’s owner Brittany Engen thanked everyone who contributed and those who sent messages of love and support to the furry friend.

‘I wanted to come here and make a general statement to you all about how appreciative and thankful we are for your donations, prayers and endless support,’ she wrote.

DailyMail.com reached out to Baker for an update on Chance’s condition Monday morning but did not hear back by the time of publication.

The dog’s run-in with bees happened days after an LAPD volunteer identified as Gary was stung dozens of times while responding to an angry swarm in Encino.

During that attack, Gary fell to the ground and suffered multiple fractures in his face along with other general injuries.

Gary was taken to the hospital where he remained for several days.

He was also treated with anti-venom for the stings.

During that bee attack which occurred on May 15, Gary fell to the ground and suffered multiple fractures in his face along with other general injuries

Gary’s son told KTLA he watched the swarm of bees attack his father live on television and felt helpless witnessing the tragic events unfold.

‘It was gut-wrenching,’ Daniel said. ‘I couldn’t even believe it. It looked so painful.’

The video taken from above shows the volunteer LAPD cop running around the Encino neighborhood frantically while swatting.

The bees continue to swarm and sting him until he eventually collapses on the ground with blood coming from his face.

After a short time, Gary was rescued from the bees and taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his fractures and other injuries.

‘He’s got a triple fracture above his eyebrow, on the nose region, I think that’s where a lot of the blood came from and just under his eye socket as well,’ the son said.
