People online have been left heartbroken after a dog got dressed up to meet his new family – only for his potential new owners not to turn up to take him home.
The DSPCA (Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) shared a picture of the adorable 12-year-old Border Collie named Jordan on Twitter, which showed him wearing a collar that had the front section of a tuxedo attached to it, and said he had been waiting 500 days to find his forever home.
And alongside the image, which has gone viral, the DSPCA urged people not to get animals’ “hopes up” as they explained that Jordan had been waiting for his new family to come and pick him up, but they never showed.

But they never showed up to take him home
In more heartbreaking news, the charity announced it was actually the second time a family have agreed to take Jordan home and then failed to show up when they were supposed to collect him.
The DSPCA first shared the heartbreaking news with a video posted to their @DublinSPCA account in which they said Jordan had been waiting 500 days in the shelter and said that while he has “been through so much”, he has learned to “trust people again” thanks to the work of the DSPCA staff.
And just a few hours after sharing the video, they followed up with the picture of Jordan in his mini tuxedo, where they wrote: “He got all dressed up to meet a family who was coming to meet him but they never showed up.
“This is the second time a family have been due to meet him and not shown up. Please don’t get our hopes up.”
Commenters on the Twitter thread were left heartbroken by Jordan’s plight, with many saying those who failed to show up should be “ashamed” of themselves for letting the poor pooch down
Others, however, said it was likely a “lucky escape” for Jordan, as they believed that his potential new owners wouldn’t have been right for him.
One person said: “Poor Jordan and shame on those people. His forever home is out there, this little guy deserves it.”
While another added: “If they can’t be bothered to turn up then they definitely aren’t the type to be responsible enough to take on a beauty like him and give him the life he deserves. Better days are coming from him, of that I’m sure !!!
And a third posted: “Ok, this just breaks my heart. Hope he finds his forever family very soon.”
If you live in the Dublin area and are thinking of giving Jordan – who is described as a “distinguished gentleman” – a forever home, you can find more information about him via the DSPCA website.
