The animal was struggling to keep its head above the water so Lyle Welsh jumped in to go and rescue the stricken deer

In the clip, Lyle swims out to the doe with a body board and attempts to grab hold of it as it wriggles in his arms.

The baby deer can be heard crying in panic while trying to stay afloat in the choppy river.

Lyle manages to get hold of the deer and swims towards the rest of his family on the boat, who are quick to lean over the side and lift the animal on board.

Once out of the water the group set about drying the young deer with a towel before steering the boat towards land.

After managing to save the deer another family member pulled the scared animal aboard their boat

They then release the deer on the shore and watch it as it runs away into the long grass, but not before it turns to look at its rescuers one last time.

Writing online alongside the video, Lyle said: ‘Courageous family saves rogue deer from frigid water.

‘Once in a lifetime moment captured by team of untrained heroes.
