Hazel was searching for her forever home, but it was taking some time.
Even the sweetest pit bulls can be hard to place, and adding a disability like blindness can make finding the perfect home even more challenging.
While she waited for her forever family to find her, Hazel was living with a loving foster family. She’d never seen her foster family before, but she knew she loved them and they loved her.
Her foster parents made sure their house was all set up for Hazel, ensuring the furniture was secured in case she bumped into anything and making sure there were no unexpected obstacles left out each night. They worked with her on using verbal cues to direct her and keep her out of harm’s way.
Hazel was sweet and loving, and all-around great dog, but her foster family felt that she was holding back a part of herself.
Finally, they got the news they’d been waiting and hoping for: Hazel was approved for surgery to reverse her blindness!
They took her to the animal hospital for her surgery, and it was a success. After the procedure, her foster parents were told it would take some time for her to gain her vision back, but it was apparent that Hazel was already seeing.
The moment she saw her foster parents for the first time was so sweet! After all the time she’d spent with them, she finally got to truly see them.
Beyond gaining her vision back, Hazel also got a new confidence for life. She did everyhting with a bit more gusto, like crossing the street and playing with toys. She even plays fetch now, something she never did while blind!
Hazel went on to be adopted and seems to be thriving with new family and her vision.
