Gus and Lucky are a very exceptional couple with an endearing bond that is winning over the hearts of almost everyone they come in contact with. Gus, an English bulldog, and Lucky, a chicken with special needs, met after Chandler Coate, a pet parent, adopted both of them.
According to Coate, “I introduced them without a whole lot of planning or foresight.”
Lucky was first on high alert, but as soon as she understood that Gus wouldn’t chase her or hurt her, she quickly warmed up to her bulldog sibling.
Chickens naturally want to be in a flock,” says Coate. “She just started to gravitate to wherever he was going.”
The two’s unexpected connection gradually grew, and now Gus and Lucky are close friends with whom they spend every day. Gus and Lucky like spending time together doing things like eating and sleeping, and Lucky especially love to follow Gus around. Additionally, Lucky enjoys acting just like Gus, including following him around to beg for food and clucking if he starts to bark.
“She’s learning to be a dog I think,” says Coate.
After Coate posted pictures of this unusual pet connection on her own Facebook page, some of her fans recommended she create a page just for them. Coate followed their advise, and as a result, Gus and Lucky now have a Facebook page with over a thousand fans.
“Gus and Lucky are better together because… they enrich each other’s lives, they have brought so much joy and happiness to my family and my family’s life, and then that has spread to bringing joy and laughter and happiness to everyone who follows them on social media,” says Coate.
“Them together is special and unique and the happiness they bring to everybody is something I could have never expected, and something I’m so grateful for.”
