When Donna with Stray Rescue of St. Louis approached Roddie, the dog was limping and didn’t want her to get close. Temperatures outside had soared to triple digit heat. For the animal rescue, when the heat goes up, they get extremely busy. Not only do they have to rescue dogs affected by the extreme heat but they also pick up more abused dogs. The two go hand-in-hand, the rescue explains.
“The heat seems to send everyone into a frenzy,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis writes. “Abuse rises when the heat spikes year after year. And so far, this year has been no exception. Last week during the extreme heat, we rescued more than 20 dogs, and Roddie was one of them. She was shot.”
When they got back to the shelter, Roddie was examined by their vets. They found that the bullet had entered through the front of her leg “shattered her bone and is now lodged near her shoulder.”
The prognosis wasn’t great. “Sadly, because the break is right in half, she needed an amputation to recover. She had her leg amputated, but now she is pain free.”

Now that she’s pain free, Roddie has more time to snuggle. Her rescuers write, “She loves no part of her day more than her snuggle sessions.”
She is now ready to go to foster and “would love a quiet home where there are plenty of snuggling sessions throughout the day.”
