The things you see out there… nature never ceases to amaze. The wildness is always extraordinary.
It just seems to make sense to me to want to be a wildlife photographer. Beyond just experiencing the amazing things these animals do, they get the opportunity to capture it and share it with the world. These wildlife photographers are professionals though.
They aren’t on a roadside with a cellphone, trying to get dangerously close to wild animals. No, they use knowledge, skill, and technique to get into the best areas that house these animals and use massive camera lens to be able to maybe get that one amazing shot.
It always amazes me the lengths they will go to. Without hesitation they will hike right into grizzly country with tons of expensive gear, all for the sake of the art.
As crazy as it seems, grizzlies are one beautiful, powerful, and wild animal. Everything they do is wildlife photographer’s dream. I mean, these are massive predators reaching weights of 1,000 pounds depending on where you are. In most cases much smaller but can take out animals every bit of their own size and larger.
These beasts will overpower the likes of bison, moose, and elk, three of the largest animals in North America. And they sometimes even make that look easy.
They require a lot of food, at times consuming over 50,000 calories in a day preparing for hibernation. That takes a lot of meat even when you’re consuming an average of 20,000 a day. With that much meat, one would think it must get stuck in their teeth sometimes.
Well, this photographer, Mark Payton, showed us a picture to prove they might!
This grizzly was caught in Yellowstone National Park using his giant bull elk not only for a meal, but also using the antlers as a toothpick. I can’t say I have seen one do this before, but it just seems to make sense.
What a shot.
