Oliver showed up on a couple’s driveway looking horrible and looking for help. He was covered in scars and was skinny. Not knowing where the dog had come from, Jessica checked with her neighbors and learned that the dog had been dumped on the street where they live earlier in the day.
She immediately got a few things at the store for him – a bed, some toys, a collar and brought him inside their garage. Oliver was shy and had clearly been abused but he instantly trusted Jessica’s husband.
They took Oliver to the vet and confirmed that Oliver was most likely used in dog fighting as a bait dog. As Jessica’s family has two dogs, the vet recommended that Oliver be quarantined for a few weeks because he was quite sick. Jessica says they got lucky in that he wasn’t ill in a way that needed surgery.
Jessica says that she was comfortable with two dogs and hadn’t planned on getting a third, but she figures he picked them as his parents. Oliver is still learning how to behave as a family dog but according to Jessica “he’s doing great now.”
