Effie, a rescue dog from Amsterdam, has won the hearts of TikTok users with a heartwarming video showcasing her incredible transformation. The clip captures Effie cowering in fear on her new owners’ bed as they try to coax her out with treats.
However, fast forward a month later and viewers are treated to an entirely different dog. Effie can be seen joyfully sprinting around a field, demanding cuddles from her loving rescuers, relishing open-top car rides, and receiving countless belly rubs.
The video ends with the simple caption “adopted dog love.” It’s worth noting that Effie shares her new home with two furry feline friends named Boef and Chip.
According to the Humane Society, almost 50% of cats and dogs owned in the United States were adopted from shelters, indicating a significant rise in the preference for adopting over buying pets from breeders. Adoption emerged as the most popular method of acquiring both dogs and cats between 2021 and 2022, with 40% of dogs and 43% of cats originating from shelters. It is not surprising that puppies have a much higher adoption rate than adult dogs, with a 60% adoption rate compared to as low as 25% for older dog breeds, according to the World Animal Foundation. This could be due to potential health conditions and engrained behaviors. However, it is essential to remember that even older dogs deserve a loving home.
Pedigree, a pet nutritionist, has identified six dog breeds that frequently end up in shelters in the United States. Despite evidence to the contrary, Pit Bulls are often considered a dangerous breed and are therefore commonly found in rescue centers. Boxer dogs’ high energy levels may be why they appear on the list. Surprisingly, Chihuahuas and dachshunds also make an appearance, but the most unexpected breed is the Labrador retriever.
This breed was previously America’s most popular breed until it was replaced by the French bulldog in 2023 after 31 years at the top. The Labrador retriever’s popularity has led to irresponsible breeding, resulting in numerous potential health and behavioral issues.
Pedigree commented that this is unfortunate as these dogs are loyal and loving, with more than enough love to give to an entire family. One user complimented Effie, a rescue puppy, by saying she is gorgeous and thanking her rescuers for giving her a safe space to express her joy.
