These amazing snaps show a feisty zebra biting back at a hungry CROCODILE.
The brave zebra showed no fear as he showed the snapping croc who was boss.
As he crossed the river with the rest of his herd during their annual migration, some sly crocs decided to try and snare the unsuspecting zebra for dinner.
But the group of killer crocs weren’t expecting the fearless zebra to fight back – and one got a shock when the zebra tried to take a chunk out of him.
Incredibly, the gutsy zebra managed to get away from the jaws of the three snapping crocs with only a broken leg, and he limped off to the other side of the river leaving the crocs hungry.
Without warning a crocodile attacks the startled herd
The dramatic scene was caught on camera by South African photographer Nelis Wolmarans, as the zebras crossed the Mara River at the Maasai Mara National Reserve, in Kenya.
Nelis, 41, said: “I was working as a camp manager, and was told that a big river crossing was about to take place for the annual migration.
“We watched several zebra and wildebeest crossing the river, and the crocodiles showed little interest
“Then one crocodile showed interest, followed by several others, swimming up to a single zebra making its way across the river.
“They approached it from behind, and started the attack.
“The zebra fought hard, almost making it out the other side, when it was grabbed and dragged back into the river.

“Three large crocodiles latched onto the zebra, and performed a death roll.
“The zebra was still fighting, and tried to bite the crocodiles back.
“It somehow miraculously managed to free itself from their jaws, and escaped to the other side of the river – but not without injury.
“During the struggle the zebra was left with a broken right back leg – but after resting for a while, the zebra slowly made its way up the riverbank and onto the plains above.
“When I saw what was happening, I felt initial excitement give way to sadness – watching this zebra give it all to survive.
“The zebra was later seen integrating with the rest of the herd, but the injury would of course made it an easy target to some of the larger predators that frequent the area.
“I would have loved the zebra to escape unharmed, but nature’s way is not always beautiful – in the end all play their role in the circle of life.”
