Dog With Deformed Paws Gets 3D-Printed Prosthetic Legs That Let Him Run

Derby, a Husky mix dog born with severely deformed front paws, can now walk thanks to some of the latest 3D-printing technologies. The U.S.-based 3D Systems company created customized prosthetics for Derby that look like the legs on a rocking chair and finally let him outrun his humans!

It all started when Derby was fostered by Tara Anderson, who works at 3D Systems. He was going to be euthanized until he got picked up by Peace and Paws, a no-kill shelter that gave him a chance. Read more about their story below!

Derby’s front paws were deformed from birth

He could barely walk, and often scraped or cut himself

He was going to be euthanized, but a no-kill shelter decided to save him

And when he got his 3d-printed prosthetic legs, he was off like greased lightning!

It all started with his foster mommy Tara Anderson, who works at 3D Systems

They took CT scans of Derby’s elbows and designed some custom prosthetic legs

.

The prosthetics will start low and get bigger as Derby gets used to them

Derby now lives with Don and Sherry Portanova

He’s really excited about his new legs – take a look!
