‘Mate..what just happened?’ Incredible moment a seal slaps a kayaker in the face with a gigantic octopus
A kayaker got quite a fright during a trip with colleagues when a seal suddenly emerged from the water and slapped him in the face with an octopus.
The double-whammy was recently captured on a GoPro off the coast of Kaikoura, on New Zealand’s South Island.
Kyle Mulinder said he was paddling with several others when the sassy seal appeared out of nowhere.
The group of content creators were out testing their new GoPro HERO7, when fellow peer Taiyo Masuda caught the moment Mr Mulinder was caught between the vicious sea life battle.
‘We were just sitting out in the middle of the ocean and then this huge male seal appeared with an octopus and he was thrashing him about for ages,’ Mr Mulinder told Yahoo7 News.
The seal dipped back underwater before suddenly re-emerging – this time with a vengeance.
Footage captured the moment the seal launched into the air and whipped the octopus directly onto Mr Mulinder’s face.

‘It was weird because it happened so fast but I could feel all the hard parts of the octopus on my face like ‘dum dum dum’.’
Mr Mulinder brought a new meaning to the term ‘stunned mullet’.
He winced and screamed as his peers erupted into laughter.
Although the octopus put up a good fight, Mr Mulinder said the seal came out on top.
