On the 22nd of September, GWARP (an organization focused on global animal welfare) received a heartbreaking report about an older dog who was being subjected to cruel neglect and abuse. It was a particularly severe case, one of the worst they had ever come across.
Upon discovery, the dog was in a visibly unhealthy state, weak and ill-looking, confined to a spot with no access to food or water. It was apparent that the poor animal had been dealing with untreated bone cancer for several years, a debilitating condition that had worsened due to a lack of proper care and nourishment. The dog’s pitiful existence had consisted of surviving on scraps and garbage, living on a short chain that restricted its movement and caused malnourishment. The continuous deprivation of essential nutrients resulted in osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer that is commonly caused by severe damage and infection leading to tumor formation. In a heart-wrenching revelation, the person who reported the case witnessed the owner brutally beating the dog while under the influence of alcohol. The innocent canine had been confined to a small yard for years, unable to move more than a few feet due to the short metal chain it was tethered to.
The GWARP rescue team encountered a difficult situation when they tried to take custody of a dog in need of urgent medical attention. The owner initially refused to relinquish ownership, but the team was determined to save the dog’s life. They sought help from the local police and provided the necessary documentation after hours of negotiation. Eventually, the owner agreed to let the rescue team take the dog for medical checks, blood tests, and an urgent amputation. Tissue samples were sent for histology, but there is still a long road ahead for the dog’s recovery.
When the vet examined Jordan, they discovered that he had osteosarcoma, a type of cancer that grows quickly. Luckily, it hadn’t spread to his lungs yet, which gave some hope for his recovery. Despite this, the tumor kept getting bigger and caused his skin to tear as it expanded each day. To help him feel better, Jordan was given a relaxing bath in an attempt to rid him of negative energy and his traumatic past.
Regrettably, the team shared that Jordan’s medical condition cannot be addressed effectively in Azerbaijan. He requires relocation to Turkey, where he can receive the essential medical attention. They have already arranged his transport, and he will be transferred in a couple of days.
After arriving in Istanbul, Jordan underwent pre-surgery sedation to get X-rays of his whole body. He finally had the amputation surgery to remove the tumor-ridden limb, and now he’s on the road to recovery. He’s been doing well for the past three days, showing quick adaptation skills to his new life without his limb. His appetite has also returned, and he is enjoying the food given by his caretakers.
We should extend our heartfelt wishes to Jordan for a fast recovery and an amazing future ahead. Jordan’s story has touched many hearts and we want him to know that he is cherished by all.
