Although he is always cautious, one night a new father forget to close the door all the way when he took his dog out for a walk. He lived in a city and knows better than anyone how important it is to be aware of your surroundings. Back inside, he kissed his wife and daughter goodnight before going to bed himself.
However, it appeared to be a result of pure coincidence. While the family slept later that night, an injured stray wandered the street for several hours. She then climbs the front steps and enters the house by pushing open the door.
The new dad gets home to two dogs the next morning. What? How did that happen? He goes over and greets this new dog. She was in really bad condition, to say the least. Her paws were badly damaged, and she couldn’t support her weight on one of her legs.
The new father made a few phone calls. He had two alternatives: surrender her to animal control and she would be placed in a shelter, or bring her to the veterinarian himself. He opted for the latter option. She was scanned for a microchip at the vet and didn’t have one.
The vet explained that the dog was not in good condition and needed a tooth to be extracted, as well as antibiotics. The family took her in and officially adopted her, naming her Suzy.
After curiously reviewing their camera’s security footage once they got home, the new dad is stunned. The door didn’t latch from the heavy winds once he returned, yes, but after Suzy came inside, a man can be seen coming up to their front stoop as well.
The man, a local named Steve, proceeded to shut their front door after walking past and seeing it ajar, assuring that the family remained safe inside. What a gentleman! Suzy is gaining weight and recovering from her wounds. The family understands that since she’s a senior that spent her life on the streets, her time left might be short. But that’s the point. They want to give her the best golden years possible.
The quick-thinking dog gets along with the family’s other dog perfectly. She also loves her new family. We are so happy that Suzy was as resourceful as she was and is now safe and sound.
