Sometimes, dogs with special needs find companions that share similar struggles, just like a leg amputee veteran who recently adopted an extraordinary rescue dog that had also lost one of its legs.
Kane, a German Shepherd, was a stray dog that unfortunately got hit by a car, causing a severe break in his right leg. The Inland Valley Humane Society in Pomona, California, had to amputate his leg to save his life.
Despite missing a leg, Kane remained unfazed and continued to run as if he had all four legs intact, as reported by NBC Los Angeles. A disabled dog like Kane would typically find it challenging to be adopted as potential owners prefer able-bodied pets to those with disabilities. However, Dane Orozco visited the shelter to find a new pet and knew that Kane was the perfect companion for him. They shared a commonality in that they both lost their right leg.
As per the Inland Valley Humane Society, Dane is a military veteran who lost one of his legs while serving overseas. To uplift his spirits, he decided to get a new pet.
I often feel low, so my boss asked me what I enjoy the most. What would make you happy? I replied, “I have always been fond of dogs, but it’s been quite some time since I had one,” as reported by NBC Los Angeles.
The moment Dane set his eyes on Kane, a three-legged dog, he knew that they were meant to be together. “The instant I saw him, I knew he was the one for me,” expressed Dane. “I felt an instant connection with him. Just look at him, he’s flawless.”
The irresistible urge to adopt Kane was too strong for his current owner to resist. Having been previously overlooked, Kane is now content with his new owner who takes him to work and offers unwavering support. The Humane Society was delighted to see Kane settle into his new home, and their TikTok video depicting the heartwarming tale has gone viral with close to 13 million views.
The shelter expressed their good wishes for Kane and Dane’s future pursuits. It’s amazing how they found each other, and it feels like fate brought them together. Having a friend who understands your struggles can greatly uplift your confidence, and we are overjoyed that these two have formed a bond.
